Day 24 - Chapter 4, Verses 30-32

He said, "To what shall we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable can we use for it? It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth. But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade."

The mustard seed is small. It grows to something great. Can you see that happening with God’s life in you?

The "kingdom of God" is hard to define. In the gospels, Jesus gives us some comparisons to help us understand. For me, the mustard seed is a tiny spark of faith in the believer which, properly tended, can grow into the flame of faith. And that flame can change the world, as the flame of the Spirit did at Pentecost. How the spark can best be tended is what each disciple has to learn for themselves. We all come to Christ by different paths.
